Polish central bank’s head protected by EU laws - Lagarde

The Polish central bank head Adam Glapiński is protected by the EU law if the upcoming government plans to unlawfully prosecute or suspend him, European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde said in a letter on Monday.
In November, the opposition leader Donald Tusk said he is considering putting Glapinski before the State Tribunal. Ebury analysts estimated that this is now one of the greatest risks for the Polish zloty.
“The Statute of the ESCB and the ECB, in order to guarantee the independence of the governors of the national central banks, offers protection in case the Sejm was to subsequently adopt a resolution to prosecute you,” Lagarde told Glapiński in a letter.
