In Q1 2024, coal, oil, natural gas, and metal ore transport by rail in Poland fell below 45% for the first time. The total rail cargo was 54.2 million tons, the lowest since Q2 2020, with 16.1 million tons of coal transported, a 27.7% drop from Q1 2023. Coal's share of cargo fell to 30.5%. Other significant cargo categories included metal ores and mining products, and coke and refined petroleum products.

Despite the overall decline, chemicals, rubber, plastic products, and transport equipment saw increases. The rail freight market shows a slowdown, with shifts in cargo structure.
