One-third of Poles positively assess the changes that have occurred in their diet and eating habits over the last year and a half, according to a study by WSB University in Gdańsk and SW Research. Many have acquired healthy habits, such as keeping their bodies hydrated or eating more fruit and vegetables. The respondents also pointed to the restriction of alcohol and cigarettes, as well as greater regularity in meals. However, the pandemic was not motivating for everyone. Every third Pole complains about extra pounds.
"Healthy practices that have seen an increase include more water consumption and preparing healthier meals. Bad practices that have seen a decrease include eating irregularities and smoking," Aleksandra Nowicka-Jasztal, MD, Ph.D., a dietitian and lecturer at the WSB University in Gdańsk, said.
The responses showed that the average consumption of vegetables and fruits increased during the forced stay at home.
“In fact, vegetables, and fruit should be present in our every meal. You should also remember about proper hydration because water is a very important element for our body, supports detoxification processes, and helps to maintain adequate hydration, which also affects the proper metabolism and maintaining appropriate body weight," WSB expert in Gdańsk added.
