According to the Zaczytani.org Foundation, therapy with fairy tales is a method for working with preschool and early school-age children, using specially selected texts (books, stories) for therapeutic, psychoeducational, or relaxation purposes. It can address specific issues but does not have to be. An important goal is to work with the child’s emotions. Through reading, emotions can be more easily identified and named.
"Bibliotherapy is a three-step process. Reading stories is the beginning; it's the shared experience of the protagonist's journey, making it an effective tool. The second step is a conversation, reflecting on what happened. During sessions with children, we discuss what the hero seemingly went through, but in reality, both adults and children are talking about their own experiences, emotions, and understanding of the story. The third element of bibliotherapy is shared play," Michał Jakub Stępień from the Zaczytani.org Foundation, explained.
