Poland far down in Global Bicycle Cities Index ranking

Europe leads ahead of the rest of the world in bicycle statistics. European cities topped the list, mainly due to high-quality bicycle paths and weather conditions that include a large number of "bikeable" days. Interestingly, no city in the United States made the top 10 or even the top 20, even though many are on the list. At the top of this year's ranking is the Dutch city of Utrecht. The city boasts high ratings for bicycle infrastructure and weather conditions, and more than half of its residents (51 percent) use a bicycle in their daily lives.
Unfortunately, despite considerable investment in recent years, the list includes only two Polish cities: Warsaw (ranked 59th) and Krakow (68th). Interestingly, Poland ranks high, fifth in the EU, in terms of sold bicycle production. In 2021, 1.2 million unicycles were produced in our country. However, urban infrastructure still leaves much to be desired. According to Luko, only 5 percent of Warsaw residents ride bicycles. There is also a lack of bicycle and pedestrian-only zones.
