Poland's Minister of Agriculture, Czesław Siekierski, announced in Brussels that the government has applied for EU assistance from the agricultural reserve for farmers affected by recent floods. In the coming weeks, Poland will submit a damage report to the European Commission, as the request requires documented losses. Local commissions are assessing the extent of the destruction, which includes not only flooded agricultural land but also the disposal of contaminated feed and grain.
Siekierski highlighted the importance of increasing the agricultural reserve budget, currently set at €450 million for 2023-2027, to support farmers facing market disruptions. The European Commission recently proposed nearly €120 million in aid for farmers in several countries affected by adverse weather conditions.
