Technological advancements, including artificial intelligence and automation, are arriving at a crucial time for developed countries. As Europe, the U.S., and most OECD nations face depopulation and a shrinking workforce, automation can help mitigate labor shortages by reducing the need for new jobs. This shift could enhance productivity and maintain competitiveness against regions experiencing population growth.
“We are not looking at job replacement but rather a mechanism to ease labor market pressures caused by demographic shifts,” Andrzej Kubisiak, Deputy Director at the Polish Economic Institute, said.
He noted that Poland’s working-age population is projected to decline by 2.1 million by 2035 – a 12.5 percent drop in just a decade. Closing this gap through immigration alone is unrealistic, given the unique conditions that led to previous migration waves.
