EPO: large increase in Polish patent applications in 2018

The number of Polish patent applications filed with the European Patent Office (EPO) increased in 2018 by almost 20 percent, which means one of the highest growth rates in Europe, the EPO said on Tuesday. The average growth rate among the EPO’s 38 member states was 3.8 percent.
In total, last year Polish applicants filed 534 patent applications with the EPO (in 2017, the figure was 446). Higher education institutions were the main drivers of Polish patent activity. The first place in the ranking of Polish applicants was taken by the Jagiellonian University with 12 patent applications.
