More and more foreigners working in Poland are registered with ZUS. The latest labor market data presented by the PKO BP bank already indicate nearly 800,000 foreigners who were registered with the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) as of May 31. In total, it is 127,000 more than before the pandemic. The statistics concern people working legally and paying social security contributions.
The study "A foreign employee in the era of a pandemic" conducted in April and May 2021 by the EWL Group agency and the Study of Eastern Europe at the University of Warsaw shows that the vast majority of foreign employees, without whom, as the data show, the pension system in Poland may collapse, who decided for employment in our country during the COVID-19 pandemic, she does not regret her decision and would recommend work to her friends. At the same time, the study shows that the stabilization of the epidemiological situation and the slow return of European economies to pre-pandemic levels increases the interest in migrating to countries other than Poland.
According to the survey, already over 30 percent of foreigners employed in Poland were looking for job offers in other countries. In September 2020, this indicator was 1/3 lower (19 percent). The authors of the study emphasize that the number of foreigners who would like to work abroad is approaching the level from before the outbreak of the pandemic (31 percent).
Still, most foreigners are interested in the possibility of going to Germany (51 percent), Poland ranks second – 48 percent of subjects want to work with us. The Czech Republic (26 percent), the USA (25 percent), Canada (23 percent), and Norway (21 percent) are also rated high in the ranking, the authors of the report enumerate.
