In 2024, 30 percent of Polish consumers used digital wallets, marking a 3 percentage point increase from the previous year, according to the Adyen Retail Report. The dominant payment method remained Blik, accepted in 95 percent of retail locations due to its versatility in online payments, ATM withdrawals, and phone transfers.
Mobile payments like Apple Pay and Google Pay also saw growing adoption, while QR code transactions rose to 18 percent, particularly in e-commerce. The "Buy Now, Pay Later" (BNPL) model gained popularity, with 28 percent of consumers using it, a significant 11-point increase.
Traditional methods still held strong, with debit (52 percent) and credit cards (42 percent) remaining widely used. Meanwhile, self-checkout continued to be popular in physical stores, preferred by 59 percent of shoppers. Consumers increasingly expect flexible, secure, and convenient payment options, with 73 percent willing to abandon a purchase if their preferred method is unavailable.
