Longest tunnel in Poland begins construction near Limanowa for PLN 1.9 bln
A nearly 4-kilometer-long tunnel, set to become the longest in Poland, will be built in Małopolska, near Limanowa. It is part of the modernized Chabówka-Nowy Sącz railway line, with the most expensive section, Limanowa-Klęczany, costing 1.9 billion PLN. The tunnel will be excavated using a massive Chinese TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine), which has a diameter of 10 meters. The machine, already tested in China, will carve through solid rock while simultaneously constructing a reinforced concrete lining. The project, managed by the Polish company Budimex and Turkish Gülermak, includes 10 viaducts and 12 bridges. This unprecedented investment will significantly enhance Poland's rail infrastructure.
