The Łódź complex Monopolis by Polish company Virako has won a prestigious award in the international MIPIM Awards 2020 competition. The building was awarded as the best mixed-use project in the world.
Monopolis was nominated in the "mixed-use development" category as the only project from Europe. Thus, the project was among the four best investments in the world, next to Singapore, Montreal and Bangkok. It is worth mentioning that so far in the history of the competition only two projects from Poland have won these prestigious statuettes: Metropolitan and Warsaw Spire.
The developer of the Monopolis investment is the Polish company Virako. The project was entrusted to the Grupa 5 Architekci studio.
“We are very pleased that Monopolis won the award for the best investment in the "mixed-use development" category in such a prestigious competition as MIPIM Awards 2020. We were the only representatives of the Old Continent to be finalists in our category, competing with three great facilities. We are proud that our investment has gained recognition in the eyes of an international jury. Monopolis is one of the most technologically advanced revitalizations in the world. And Łódź is a beautiful city that deserves such good investments,” Krzysztof Witkowski, president of Virako, said
Monopolis is a very successful revitalization of the former Monopoly Wódczany plants from 1902 in Łódź. Today, the former factory has become an ideal space for modern offices with a unique atmosphere, a children's club, theater, ART gallery, a museum devoted to the history of the former Monopoly Wódczany plants and the amphitheater, i.e. functions constituting the diversity of the project. These post-factory spaces have been chosen so far by Swiss: Clariant and ABB, and the Swedish Digital New Agency.
