Cigarette exports from Poland reached a record value of $4 billion in 2020. This has made us the world's largest exporter of this product, according to a report by IndexBox, a Californian company specializing in market research with the help of artificial intelligence.
According to their data, Poland is responsible for 18 percent of world export of this product.
The largest importer of cigarettes from Poland, as in the case of many other goods, is Germany. The value of German cigarette imports in 2020 increased by over a third compared to 2019 and amounted to $1.4 billion. The United Kingdom and the Netherlands were also on the podium of recipients of Polish cigarettes, the report stated.
As for the average export price of cigarettes from Poland, it increased by 3.5 percent y/y. In 2020, it amounted to almost $21,000 per 1 metric tonne.
Interestingly, prices vary depending on the market. We sell the most expensive cigarettes to Belgium and the cheapest to France ($34,400 and $11,500 per 1 tonne, respectively).
Over the last decade, Poland has increased its cigarette exports twice in terms of product quantity and three times in value.
In 2020, the value of all exports from Poland amounted to €237.5 billion, and imports – €225.5 billion – according to GUS data. This means that cigarettes are responsible for about 1.7 percent of the value of our exports.
