Poland notifies EU of first nuclear power plant project under Euratom Treaty

Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ) has officially notified the European Commission of Poland’s first nuclear power plant project, fulfilling legal obligations under the Euratom Treaty. The planned low-emission, modern, and safe facility is to be built in the Pomerania region. This notification is separate from the parallel state-led notification process concerning public funding. The purpose of the Euratom procedure is to ensure the project complies with EU safety, technical, and economic standards.
Officials emphasize this step as a significant milestone demonstrating Poland’s commitment to long-term energy security. The European Commission's opinion, resulting from the notification, is essential for obtaining the construction permit from the Polish Atomic Energy Agency and for advancing the project further.
