Polish Nuclear Power Plants (PEJ) has received approval for the Geological Works Project, marking a pivotal step toward establishing Poland's first nuclear power plant in Pomerania. Scheduled to commence in May 2024, the project, led by Bechtel, involves comprehensive geological research spanning approximately 30 hectares in the Choczewo commune.
PEJ's press release affirms compliance with regulatory standards, ensuring the project's alignment with legal requirements. The research aims to evaluate geological, engineering, and hydrogeological conditions, crucial for the subsequent location report necessary for construction permit approval.
The first stage of research, slated for completion within the year, will inform ongoing power plant design efforts conducted by the Westinghouse-Bechtel consortium. This milestone underscores PEJ's role as a key investor in Poland's nuclear energy infrastructure development.
