President Duda seeks union input on health insurance contribution reduction for entrepreneurs

President Andrzej Duda has announced that he will consult with the Social Dialogue Council regarding the reduction of health insurance contributions for entrepreneurs. This comes after the Senate's recent approval of a bill that will lower health insurance contributions starting in 2026. Duda emphasized that the opinion of union members, particularly those from the NSZZ "Solidarność" trade union, is crucial in his decision-making process.
The bill, which has now reached the president’s desk, has generated controversy. While some support the measure, union delegates at the National Congress of Delegates (KZD) strongly oppose it, arguing that it disproportionately benefits self-employed individuals over full-time employees. They also warn that the reduction could harm the National Health Fund’s finances and the quality of healthcare. The new regulations will impact approximately 2.5 million entrepreneurs and reduce the state budget's health insurance revenue by PLN 4.6 billion.
The debate continues as Duda prepares for consultations before making a final decision.
