The Civic Coalition (Koalicja Obywatelska) announced Rafał Trzaskowski, the current Mayor of Warsaw, as its candidate for the upcoming presidential election. Trzaskowski secured the nomination by winning the party's primary election with 74.5 percent of the votes, defeating Radosław Sikorski, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The primary election saw participation from approximately 22,000 members of the Civic Coalition, which includes Civic Platform (Platforma Obywatelska), Modern (.Nowoczesna), The Greens (Zieloni), and Polish Initiative (Inicjatywa Polska). This democratic process underscores the coalition's commitment to internal democracy and member engagement.
Trzaskowski's candidacy is expected to appeal to progressive voters, particularly the youth, who are seeking change after eight years of conservative governance by the Law and Justice (PiS) party.
