A
stormwater collector is being reconstructed in
Poznan's Stara Rzeznia area.
The 360-meter section of the
collector
will collect, among other things, excess rainwater from the historic
Old Town area. The investment is fully funded by Vastint Poland.
“The collector is a concrete pipe with a diameter of 1.6 meters, designed to effectively collect excess water from heavy rainfall, which is becoming more frequent because of climate change. In Poznań, heavy rains occur about ten times a year,” says Ewa Łydkowska, spokesperson for Vastint Poland. “We are pleased to provide support to Poznan as this investment will not only serve private interests but the entire community of Stara Rzeznia Poznań.”
Vastint’s rainwater collector will have a total volume of over 720 m³, equivalent to the volume of a large swimming pool at “Chwialka.” However, the collector will never fill completely because its main purpose is to efficiently drain excess rainwater flowing from the streets of the Old Town during downpours and storms.
The collector is located within a seven-meter-deep trench. Due to the exceptionally high groundwater level (the highest in Poland in 11 years), the construction is technically complex, with the collector itself placed on piles. After completion, it will be covered with dirt up to street level (the so-called New Boznicza), which will connect the existing streets: Boznicza and Polnocna. The construction of the new artery is another investment planned by Vastint as part of the revitalization of the Stara Rzeznia.
The investment is being carried out on behalf of Vastint by AARSLEFF, a company that has been operating in Poland for almost 30 years and specializes in the most difficult and specialized geotechnical, hydrotechnical works as well as trenchless renovations of sewer and water networks. The completion of the investment is planned for the end of this year.
