Verdi, the German trade union, urges retail workers in Berlin and Brandenburg to conduct warning strikes, targeting the Schwarz Group along with Lidl and Kaufland chains over ongoing labor disputes. According to Die Zeit, three proposals from employers have failed to satisfy unionists. While strikes are currently limited to symbolic actions like rallies, negotiations remain stagnant with no progress despite previous warning strikes. Verdi insists on wage increases of at least €2.50 per hour and a nine-month period for retail employees in the two regions. Steven Haarke, representing the German Trade Association (HDE), claims that employers have tripled their initial offer from a year ago, criticizing Verdi for inflexibility in negotiations despite improved real wage offers amidst falling inflation rates.
