In 2024, butter experienced a significant price rollercoaster. Compared to 2023, prices rose by 7.2 percent overall, with the sharpest increases starting in August and peaking at 37.5 percent y/y in December. The steepest hikes were seen in supermarkets and convenience stores, while discounters and hypermarkets showed only slight price increases. Adding to the challenge for consumers, discount promotions for butter decreased by 12.5 percent y/y, especially in supermarkets and hypermarkets. Conversely, promotions grew in discount chains and convenience stores.
Experts predict butter could reach PLN 11 per unit in regular pricing this year. However, they expect prices to stabilize in the second half of 2025, assuming inflation continues to decline. While the first half of 2025 may still bring elevated prices, the forecast offers a glimmer of hope for more predictable and potentially lower costs later in the year.
