Pentagon Stays in Poland Despite U.S. Pivot to Asia

Despite America’s strategic shift toward the Indo-Pacific, the U.S. military will remain stationed in Poland, reaffirming Warsaw’s role as a key ally. As Washington prioritizes competition with China, questions arise about Europe’s security future. Yet Poland’s record-high defense spending and front-line position make it the last place the U.S. would consider withdrawing from, says Deputy Defense Minister Paweł Zalewski.
The presence of around 10,000 U.S. troops in Poland is not just symbolic – it serves as a core component of NATO’s eastern deterrence. Poland has become a logistical hub for supporting Ukraine and securing Europe’s eastern flank, especially since Russia’s 2022 invasion.
Recent troop movements from Rzeszów-Jasionka airport sparked concerns, but officials confirmed it was a strategic redeployment, not a drawdown. The shift improves training, infrastructure use, and supply efficiency.
