Climate minister Michał Kurtyka estimates that the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Poland should start in 2026, the first reactor – in 2033, and in 2040 six nuclear blocks should operate.

“We are building a zero-emission energy system in Poland, of whose atom will be an important part,” Kurtyka said.

He reminded that the majority of Polish coal-fired power plants are close to the end of their exploitation and important decisions need to be taken today in which direction to transform the energy sector.

The minister added that the right sources of funding are a key element of the feasibility of the entire nuclear project. The minister also noted that the Polish government also perceives the energy transformation from the perspective of energy security. He assessed that from this point of view, the atom contributes to such security.
