According to Eurostat estimates for 2022, the average European born in that year will live 62.6 years in good health. Poland is close to this average but still falls behind some countries.
Malta leads with 70.2 years of healthy life, followed by Italy and Norway (67.4 years) and Greece (67 years). Poland, with 62.4 years, is slightly below the EU average of 62.6 years, ranking 13th among European countries.
Despite recent declines, Poland’s figure is significantly better than the lowest, seen in Latvia (54.2 years), Denmark (55.9 years), and Slovakia (57.3 years).
Gender differences are minimal at the EU level, with women living 62.8 years in good health and men 62.4 years. However, this is concerning given the overall life expectancy of women (83.3 years) and men (77.9 years), which means many years with health issues. In Poland, women live 64.1 years in good health out of an 81.1-year lifespan, while men live 60.8 years in good health out of a 73.4-year lifespan.
