FOR: Poland 27th in Employment Flexibility Index 2020

Poland took 27th place in the 41 EU and OECD countries in the Employment Flexibility Index 2020, announced the Civil Development Forum (FOR) as part of a 3-year study on the flexibility of employment contracts. Top indexes include popular directions of Poles' emigration - Great Britain and Ireland - as well as the Czech Republic.
Thanks to the flexibility, employees and employers would have more freedom in adjusting their employment relationship in a way that suits their preferences, job specifics, and market changes.
“Before Law and Justice (PiS) came to power, Poland was in 17th place. The decrease is mainly due to the stiffening of the maximum lengths of fixed-term employment contracts. The liberalization of permanent contracts would be a better solution to make them more attractive. The PiS government also stiffened mandate contracts, burdening them with an hourly minimum wage,” the release stated.
Rigid labor regulations limit employment among foreigners three times stronger than among domestic employees. Perhaps this is the wrong solution, especially since most of them do not have the right to permanent residence or citizenship, so at the moment they do not feel strongly connected with Poland, and the dynamics of their inflow to Poland have been falling for 3 years, the FOR summarized.
