$20 million is what the leaders of the G7 countries: France, Germany, Italy, Great Britain, Japan, Canada, and the United States intend to spend on fighting the Amazon forest fires. Recently, Brazilian military aircraft and some 44,000 troops have been sent into the Amazon in an “unprecedented” operation to fight wildfires. Amazonian forest fires have been going on for many weeks.
French President Emmanuel Macron had previously stated that the G7 leaders are close to an agreement on how to help Brazil and that it concerns both technical and financial aspects of this assistance. German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that once the fires are under control, Germany and the other countries would talk to the Brazilian government about the reforestation of the Amazon.
