Germans eager to buy gold in Poland

The World Gold Council does not provide precise information on gold sales in Poland, but from the organization's data for the first quarter of 2022 on the performance of smaller European markets (the so-called "other Europe," which includes Poland), 8.4 tons were sold in this part of the world, an increase of only 3 percent compared to the same quarter last year, but at the same time, an increase of as much as 44 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2021. We can still expect continued strong demand for gold, especially in Central and Eastern Europe.
The Treasury Mint has seen increased interest in its products from German citizens in recent weeks. This is particularly evident in western Poland, but also in the capital.
"German citizens are certainly favored by the low exchange rate of the zloty, but more important are other regulations regarding the reporting of transactions to the relevant authorities, including the tax authorities. In Germany, for several years now, this has to be done for transactions above €2,000 (previously it was €15, then briefly €10,000), in Poland, gold up to €15,000 can be purchased anonymously. The best-sellers are gold coins and medium-sized bars, which are then easily sold around the world, including, of course, in Germany. Globally, we continue to see high demand for gold products. In Poland, this is certainly the result of a larger customer base, as gold has definitely increased in popularity in our country over the past 2-3 years. This year we will probably also break the national record from last year, i.e. sales of 14 tonnes of gold," Jaroslaw Zolędowski, President of the Treasury Mint, said.
