Poland has entered a demographic crisis, with projections indicating a population decline of 6.7 million by 2060, according to the Central Statistical Office (GUS). This follows a nearly 30-year trend of low birth rates, where the fertility rate has remained below 2, insufficient for generational replacement.
While the overall number of births is decreasing, there is a notable rise in births among foreign women, particularly from Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia, accounting for 6.7% of all births in 2023. The aging population will pose significant social and economic challenges, as increasing mortality rates will coincide with fewer young people entering childbearing age.
