The cost of mandatory car insurance (OC) in Poland rose by 25% in 2024, reaching an average of PLN 650, and is expected to increase further in 2025. This follows a five-year decline from PLN 779 in 2017 to PLN 505 in 2022. Inflation, higher repair costs, and insurers’ improved risk assessment are driving price hikes.
Starting January 2025, penalties for driving without OC will increase significantly, with fines for cars reaching PLN 9,330 for gaps over 14 days. In 2024, OC costs were highest in Pomorskie (PLN 759 average) and lowest in Podkarpackie (PLN 540 average), with Gdańsk being the most expensive city (PLN 883 average). The rising costs impact drivers nationwide.
