ManpowerGroup: Automation responsible for every second layoff in IT

According to ManpowerGroup, IT job layoffs are mainly driven by automation and economic challenges. Roles most at risk include manual testers, IT administrators, and programmers performing repetitive tasks. Despite this, hiring in IT remains strong, with 34% of companies planning recruitment vs. 13% considering layoffs. The net employment outlook for Q2 2025 is +21%, showing a 15-point increase year-over-year.
Automation, AI, and machine learning are reducing jobs, but demand is growing for cybersecurity (SIEM, SOC, pentesting, IAM), cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), DevOps, and programming (Python, Java, Rust). Many firms hire external specialists for flexibility, while key roles remain in-house. Expansion and new tech adoption continue to drive IT recruitment.
