A sense of humor balances seriousness – and brings perspective. It belongs to those who can forgive – and see themselves from different angles. It shapes worldviews – people with humor approach life differently. Influenced by culture, environment, and personality, it evolves.
"You can't make the world less serious – but many things are absurd," Krzysztof Materna, Deputy Artistic Director of Kraków’s Bagatela Theatre, said.
"I've always been drawn to abstract humor. In the ’90s, everything was being built – providing great comedy material. Sometimes provocation helps people more than they realize. But politicians? They take themselves too seriously. Someone who willingly enters politics simply cannot have a sense of humor – it would cost them the election. Our nation, too, struggles with self-distance; we love laughing at others but hate being laughed at. Imagine suggesting to Polish politicians what the Queen of England did at the London Olympics – it’s unthinkable," he added.
