From March 4, it will be possible to apply for IDs with an additional electronic layer. The Ministry of Digitalization estimates that 1-1.5 million Poles will receive the new documents this year.

The data recorded on the e-ID will be the same as in the ordinary plastic identification cards - name, surname, PESEL number, date of birth, place of birth, names of parents, and citizenship. The document will also encode a biometric photo. There will not be, for example, any medical or financial data stored in it. It is not mandatory to replace your current ID. If you have a valid ID card, you do not need to apply. Just like the current version, e-ID will also be valid for 10 years. According to plans, the new document with an electronic layer will replace the current version gradually until 2029.
