By 2040, Poland could accommodate about 12 GW of stable nuclear power in its energy system, according to Maciej Bando, the government’s plenipotentiary for strategic energy infrastructure. He noted that nuclear plants are expected to replace conventional power sources as they phase out. Initial research for the second nuclear plant's location is set to conclude by late next year, with the first plant planned for Lubiatów-Kopalin in Pomerania. The second plant's site will likely be near existing coal facilities and must meet various criteria, including geological stability and environmental impact. The Polish Nuclear Power Program (PPEJ) currently plans for two nuclear plants with a total capacity of 6-9 GW.
