PKP Cargo plans to lay off up to 30% of its workforce, impacting up to 4,142 employees, the company announced. The layoffs will occur no earlier than the day after notifying district labor offices and will conclude by September 30, 2024. Consultations with trade unions are set to begin regarding the collective layoffs.
Severance payments will be provided based on employment duration. PKP Cargo recently filed for restructuring proceedings to improve its financial and liquidity situation. Management is hopeful for an agreement with trade unions to suspend the Collective Labour Agreement. Additionally, a 12-month layoff program affecting up to 30% of employees was initiated on June 1, with 20% currently unemployed.
