In 2022, the European Union recorded nearly 21,000 fatalities from road accidents, averaging 46 deaths per million inhabitants, according to Eurostat.
Poland's road safety statistics are concerning. The country reported 51 deaths per million residents, surpassing the EU average. Notably, the Mazowieckie region, excluding Warsaw, experienced a rate of 106 deaths per million, placing it among the most hazardous areas in Europe.
In contrast, regions like the Åland Islands in Finland reported zero road fatalities, while Stockholm in Sweden and Vienna in Austria recorded 7 and 9 deaths per million inhabitants, respectively.
These disparities highlight the need for targeted road safety measures in high-risk areas. Poland's elevated fatality rates underscore the importance of implementing effective traffic safety strategies to reduce accidents and save lives.
