Poland has fallen to 9th place in the ranking of planned FDI in Europe and we continue to attract the most FDI in the region, according to EY's survey "Investment Attractiveness of Europe 2022". In the ranking comparing countries in terms of the number of greenfield investments creating jobs, our country dropped 2 places compared to the previous edition of the EY survey.

"In 2021, investors declared 193 such investments in Poland, 12 percent less than in 2020. As a result, we were overtaken in the ranking by Portugal and Italy (the latter recorded an 83 percent y/y growth)," the release reads.

Across Europe, investors announced 5,877 planned foreign direct investments in 2021. This is 5% more than a year earlier. As EY points out, this is, among others, the effect of a rebound from a pandemic hole. Poland ranked 9th in the ranking. Investors declared 193 greenfield investments, 12 percent less than in 2020. But the number of planned jobs from those investments, 21,000, is more than four times the number in 2020.

"These figures indicate that the rebound in Central and Eastern Europe is slower than in some Southern European countries, which appear to be the first beneficiaries of the trend towards shorter supply chains and nearshoring. The investment attractiveness of countries in our region in the short term is also adversely affected by proximity or proximity to the borders with Ukraine and Russia, countries involved in armed conflict. In the longer term, however, Poland and other CEE countries, most of which are members of NATO and the European Union, should regain investor confidence," Marek Rozkrut, EY's chief economist for the European Union and CESA region (Central and Eastern Europe, Southeastern Europe and Central Asia), commented.
