Poland may lose more than Ukraine due to the blockade of border crossings

For several months, there have been farmer protests, among others, against the import of cheap Ukrainian grain to Poland. In addition to demonstrations and talks with the government, the protesters are blocking the Polish-Ukrainian goods crossings, allowing only two trucks per hour to pass.
"We are already observing some of the political consequences of the border blockade, but the situation could worsen because it concerns not only direct Polish-Ukrainian relations, the loss of trust, which has been built by the whole society over the last two years but also relations at the European level," Andrzej Rudka, board advisor of the Lewiatan Confederation, said.
Farmers protest against the import of Ukrainian agricultural products to Poland, however, according to data cited by the Lewiatan Confederation, it is our country that has more to lose from the breakup or limitation of mutual relations, as Polish exports to Ukraine are almost three times larger than imports (over €11 billion and €4 billion). On the other hand, Polish farmers benefit from cheaper fertilizers from the East, and a potential lack of access to them could make their operations difficult.
