Brigadier General Artur Kuptel, head of the Armament Agency, informed on Polsat News that in mid-May, Poland will purchase aerostats as part of the Barbara program. This equipment will allow us to more effectively protect Polish skies.
The Americans have estimated that the cost of acquiring four airships will not exceed $1.2 billion net, which is approximately PLN 6 billion gross (including VAT). Radars will be suspended under the airships, intended to detect threats in the airspace, such as Russian maneuvering missiles and drones.
The amount of $1.2 billion covers not only the acquisition of the radars themselves but also the necessary support including the equipment of the aerostats, ground control stations, logistical and training packages, and technical documentation.
