Poles File Increasing Number of Divorce Petitions in Q1 2024

Over 21,100 divorce petitions were filed with Polish district courts in the first quarter of 2024. This represents a 5.7 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
Despite the rise in the number of petitions, the number of finalized divorces is slightly lower. In the first three months of 2024, nearly 19,800 divorce proceedings were concluded (a 0.5 percent decrease y/y).
Experts note that mediation is growing in popularity as an alternative to divorce. According to some specialists, the increase in petitions may also be related to inflation. It is important to remember that many factors, not just economic issues, influence divorce.
