In 2022, the average age at which young people across the European Union leave their family home was 26.4 years, according to Eurostat data. The highest average age was observed in Croatia, where leaving the family home typically happens at 33.4 years of age. Similarly high ages were recorded in Slovakia (30.8), Greece (30.7), Bulgaria and Spain (30.3 years), Malta (30.1), and Italy (30).

On the other hand, Finns are the quickest to move out, typically leaving home at 21.3 years old. Sweden (21.4), Denmark (21.7), and Estonia (22.7) also have young adults leaving home before the age of 23.

In Poland, the average age for young people to move out of their family home is nearly 29 years old, which is significantly higher than the EU average and closer to the upper limits seen in countries like Croatia and Italy.
