Polish defense spending lower than previously thought. NATO adjusting estimates

NATO has revised its estimates of Poland’s 2024 defense spending, lowering it from PLN 151.2 billion to PLN 137.2 billion (a drop of 9.3%). As a share of GDP, spending was adjusted from 4.12% to 3.79%, still the highest in NATO, but Poland fell from first to third place in equipment investment, with only 42.9% of its budget spent on new hardware (vs. 51.1% previously estimated).
The revisions are linked to under-execution of the Armed Forces Support Fund, which achieved just 71.7% of its 2024 plan. Despite corrections, NATO projects Poland will allocate PLN 175.7 billion (44.3 bn USD) to defense in 2025, or 4.48% of GDP, keeping it a leader among allies.
