Polish Government's IVF Refund Program Aims to Boost Birth Rates Amid Decline

The Polish government's new in vitro fertilization (IVF) refund program, launched in June 2024, is seen as a potential game-changer in addressing the country's declining birth rates. Poland recorded only 272,000 births in 2023, the lowest since World War II. The program aims to increase fertility rates by offering financial support for couples undergoing IVF, a procedure often inaccessible due to its high costs.
Experts highlight that the program's success hinges not only on financial assistance but also on widespread public education to combat the stigma associated with IVF. Michał Modro, a health law expert, emphasized the need for better societal awareness.
"We must inform the public as widely as possible. It's in everyone's interest that this program succeeds," he stated.
He also pointed out the importance of protecting the privacy of couples opting for IVF, stressing that procedural improvements are necessary to ensure that sensitive information remains confidential.
