Polish scientists create new rocket fuel

In recent months, engineers and scientists from Łukasiewicz - Institute of Aviation have successfully conducted a series of tests leading to the development of a new rocket fuel. This eco-friendly and high-performance hypergolic propellant, capable of self-ignition upon mixing, has been a long-sought goal in space propulsion.
The new fuel, using hydrogen peroxide as an oxidizer and an innovative propellant combination, is safer for personnel and the environment compared to toxic materials like hydrazine and nitrogen oxides. It boasts high performance with a specific impulse of 310 seconds in a vacuum and offers hypergolic capabilities, simplifying the engine design and enabling reusability. The fuel holds promise for future satellite platforms, landers, and upper stages of launch vehicles.
