Russia has suspended gas supplies to Poland under the Yamal contract, Onet.pl reported, citing unofficial information.
"A crisis management team has gathered in the Ministry of Climate. There is no announcement from the Russian side as to whether it is the fulfillment of the ultimatum that Vladimir Putin recently threatened. Official announcements on this matter are to be issued today," the portal informed.
As reported, the information first about a significant reduction in gas transmission, and then about its suspension today, Onet has unofficially confirmed both in government sources and in the Polish Oil and Gas Industry (PGNiG).
"It is unofficially known that last Friday the deadline for settling payments for gas in the Russian currency has expired," it added.
On Wednesday, Poland's government plenipotentiary for strategic energy infrastructure, Piotr Naimiski, informed during a panel at the European Economic Congress in Katowice that Poland would not pay Gazprom in rubles for gas supplies from Russia and was prepared for various opportunities and risks.
