Russia is attempting to influence Poland's presidential elections by recruiting locals to spread disinformation online, offering €3,000–€4,000 per person. Minister of Digital Affairs Krzysztof Gawkowski revealed these plans in an interview with money.pl and announced a comprehensive cybersecurity program starting February 3 to protect the elections.
The initiative will involve the Internal Security Agency (ABW) and the Academic Computer Network (NASK), focusing on countering fake news, illegal campaign financing, and AI-driven threats like deepfakes. Poland blocks approximately 6,000 harmful websites monthly, but new measures aim to improve response times and transparency.
Concerns also arose over U.S. restrictions on semiconductor access, which Poland deems harmful despite diplomatic efforts to reverse the decision. Meanwhile, Polish companies lag in adopting AI, prompting a PLN 4.5 billion investment plan to boost digital transformation by 2026.
