The Polish Smog Alarm (PAS) has published a report on the ranking of the most polluted towns in the country. The ranking includes regulars, but there are also newcomers. However, compared to reports from previous years, there is a clear improvement in air quality in Poland, as if the smog is letting up a bit. However, several towns with the prefix "Zdrój" have reason to be ashamed.
The winner of the infamous PAS smog ranking was again Nowa Ruda (Lower Silesia), which won in three categories: the highest number of smog days, the concentration of PM10 dust, and the concentration of benzo(a)pyrene. In the case of smog days, the national norm is 35. However, in 2022, Nowa Ruda had 95 of them. In second place is Sucha Beskidzka (Lesser Poland, 76 smog days), and third place is Pszczyna (Silesia, 75).
Unfortunately, the PAS report also mentions towns that should not be there at all. These are four spa towns: Szczawnica, Szczawno-Zdrój, Rabka-Zdrój, and Jedlina-Zdrój. There, the exceedance of the standards for benzo(a)pyrene was at the level of 300-600 percent.
