The Canal Through the Vistula Spit Becomes a Symbol of Poland's Determination

The canal through the Vistula Spit, the construction of which was opposed by Russia, is a symbol of Poland's determination to chart its course in the ever-changing landscape of international trade and diplomacy – the British daily "Daily Express" wrote on its website on Saturday.
The newspaper called the canal a "miracle of engineering" and compares it – with the proviso that the project is on a much smaller scale – to the Suez Canal.
As the "Daily Express" explained, before it was built, Polish ships sailing from Elbląg to the Baltic Sea were forced to sail through waters controlled by Russia, which had irritated the Polish authorities for years, and to free itself from this, Poland decided to dig a canal over 1 km long.
