On Monday, Donald Trump and Elon Musk engaged in a lengthy two-hour conversation on the social media platform X, delving into various topics, including climate change. Climate writer Bill McKibben labeled the exchange as the "dumbest climate conversation of all time”, highlighting the numerous inaccuracies and misleading statements.

During the discussion, Trump made the bizarre claim that rising sea levels, a consequence of melting glaciers, could be beneficial by creating “more oceanfront property.” He also introduced the concept of "nuclear warming”, a scientifically baseless phenomenon that he seemingly invented on the spot. Musk, for his part, defended the oil and gas industry, stating that it was wrong to “vilify” the sector responsible for significant planet-heating pollution. He argued that the only reason to transition away from fossil fuels was their eventual depletion, downplaying the urgent need to address climate change.

The conversation, while absurd to some, raises concerns given Trump’s potential return to the presidency and Musk’s influence as the world’s richest person and owner of a major social media platform with the power to disseminate climate misinformation to millions.
