The re-election of Donald Trump as U.S. president has sparked concern in Estonia and Latvia about potential shifts in Western support for Ukraine. The Estonian daily Eesti Paevaleht noted that Europe must now “unite,” as the past 30 years of relying on U.S. protection may be over.

Latvia’s Radio Zina warned that if Trump reduces aid to Ukraine, Latvia may face serious security risks, given Ukraine’s struggle to withstand Russian aggression without U.S. backing.

Latvian news agency LETA commented that while Trump’s return is unlikely to alter Putin’s approach in Ukraine immediately, Trump may feel pressured to fulfill campaign promises to resolve the conflict swiftly. Maj. Janis Slaidins of Latvia’s National Guard remarked that the situation remains complex and unpredictable.
