What Gen Z expects onboarding

For Generation Z, the first days at a new job are a trial period—they want to know if it's worth staying. According to the “Work War Z” report by Enpulse, young employees value clear expectations, development opportunities, and supportive teams.
Top onboarding needs include training (25%), supervisor and team support (20%), and clear task descriptions (19%). Only 2% prioritize access to tools or learning about company culture early on.
Magda Pietkiewicz, Enpulse founder, notes that Gen Z prefers specific onboarding: they want to quickly gain independence, then receive ongoing support.
Communication is key—33% want clear, objective direction; 25% value honest conversations. Encouragingly, 66% find their employers communicate well, though 20% disagree.
In teams, Gen Z values collaboration, openness, and trust. They enjoy multigenerational environments and want to learn from experienced colleagues. Early appreciation from managers builds motivation and a sense of belonging, Pietkiewicz emphasizes.
