Zdzisław Beksiński's work reached the price of PLN 1.92 mln at the auction
A historic record was broken at the auction "Fantastic Art. Surrealism and Magic Realism", which took place on October 7, 2021, at DESA Unicum. The painting "Figure" by Zdzisław Beksiński was sold for PLN 1.92 million, thus exceeding the estimate by over PLN 1 million. The total turnover was PLN 3.7 million, which makes it the best fantasy art auction on the Polish market in history.
"The Figure" – a painting from 1978, and thus the key and most famous period in Zdzisław Beksiński's work – could be seen last summer at the Koneser Praga Center at the artist's individual, cross-sectional exhibition. The growing popularity of the painter and the whole trend of fantastic art over the last decade caused the value of the painting to increase almost 27 times. In 2012, the same work was sold at Desa Unicum for PLN 72,000.
The group of works sold for high prices was joined by the painting by Jerzy Duda-Gracz, "Obraz 2375 / Łagów - late" for PLN 264,000, "Gratifying importance of complicity" by Rafał Olbiński for PLN 168,000, and "Kneeling" by Karol Bąk for PLN 72,000.
